Do You Know What Every Golfer Needs? Let’s Find Out!

In my entire career as a professional golfer, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in a situation where I’ve used this sentence; I wish I had that. I’m pretty sure you know what I’m talking about.

There are a few things that every golfing bag contains; divot tool, some tees, ball markers, gloves, and a few sleeves of balls. But apart from these golf bag essential items, there are a few more things that we might need the most in certain situations.

These are elements that are easily overlooked. And we tend to realize their importance only when we don’t have them with us on the turf.

So let’s find out what every golfer needs and what they are to avoid missing out on all the wonderful opportunities that present themselves to us while playing the game of golf.

What Every Golfer Needs

Medical Kit

What every golfer should have is a medical kit. What I mean by a medical kit is a Ziploc bag with the following items:

  • Plastic Band-Aids. Make sure that you don’t get the fabric ones as they’re not as effective as the plastic Band-Aids.
  • Ibuprofen.
  • Sunscreen. Some golfers have a habit of hanging the sunscreen bottle on the side of the golf bag. If you want to protect your golf bag from sunburn, then go ahead and hang the sunscreen bottle right over there!
  • Adhesive tape.
  • Chapstick.
  • Antiseptic wipes.
  • Sting relief pads.

Cell Phone

I know how annoying it can be when your concentration gets disrupted by the ring of someone’s cell phone. So putting the cell phone on vibrate and carrying it with you on the golf course may be a very smart idea. Why? I have two reasons to justify this.

Medical Emergency

What if your group member is having a heart attack or needs some medical assistance? The presence of a cell phone might go a long way in responding to such situations immediately. You can quickly call 911 and be held responsible for saving your group member’s life.

Call a Pro

In less life-saving but more game-saving situations, you might need your cell phone to speak to a head pro at your pro shop. Such a situation may arise when you want to resolve a certain rule dispute or want the correct answer to a golfing question.

Professional golfers often carry their cell phones during tournaments to talk to PGA pros. And the kind of assistance that you get in moments like these can make or break your game. (How to become a golf pro)

What Every Golfer Needs

The golfer needs to keep himself or herself active and focused during a round of golf are some healthy and light snacks. Many golfers carry snacks in their golf bags to improve concentration on the golf course. Snacks like granola bars, raisin boxes, Clif bars, or some jerky give you the proper amount of carbohydrates that your body needs.

But whatever you do, please don’t carry snacks that have high sugar content. They’ll just make you feel sleepy. Taking water is also equally important. You should always keep yourself hydrated during a round of golf.

Extra Gloves

When you know that your golf gloves are not what they used to be, it’s time to pack them up in a Ziploc bag and put them in your golf bag. Instead of giving them up or throwing them, you’re better off storing them in your golf bag. With 3-4 extra gloves, you always have the option of replacing them with your new ones when it’s raining or drizzling while playing.

Microfiber Towels

Since we’re talking about rain, let me tell you what every golfer needs during such times. Having rain gear on the golf course may not be as helpful as being equipped with a microfiber towel. I would advise you to store these towels in a Ziploc bag before putting them in your golf bag.

What Every Golfer Needs

Microfiber towels can help you get rid of perspiration. They can be used to clean golfing gear . In fact, these towels are popularly used for providing that dry spot for the grips when you place the golf clubs on the dewy and damp golf course.

Extra Socks

An extra pair of socks can go a long way in keeping you and your feet comfortable on the turf. They are very light to carry and they won’t increase the weight of your golf bag, right? So what’s the harm? In fact, they’ll do a great job at making sure that your feet are protected from excessive perspiration.

Toilet Paper

The golfer needs are toilet paper. Yes, you read that right. I know that it’s one of the most unusual golf bag essential items, but it has proved to be very helpful. Having a roll of toilet paper in your golfing bag can provide that much-needed comfort when your nose is giving you a hard time.

Imagine playing a tournament game with a running nose or head cold. Pretty awful, isn’t it? Your entire concentration will get ruined. Plus, toilet paper can come in handy for many other reasons on the golf course, you’ll see.

We all know how unpredictable weather conditions can be, right? So what every golfer needs in such situations is a windbreaker. It can be unbearably hot and then pleasantly cool enough the next minute.

And for such unpredictable moments, carrying a waterproof and thin windbreaker might not be the worst idea. But make sure that you get one that can completely fold up into your golf bag.

What Every Golfer Needs

Once the wind kicks in and the temperature level falls even a little, you can make your fellow golfers jealous by showing off your windbreaker. As a professional golfer, having a fully functional windbreaker in my golf bag helped me when the climate got a bit chilly on the golf course.

PGA professional, Justin Barnes, talks about what you need to play golf. Let’s find out what he has to say:

WHAT EVERY GOLFER NEEDS? Done with the list!

You must have marked that I haven’t talked about more prominent golfing gear like golf balls, tees, etc. The reason being that you already know what every golfer needs in this regard. They are the kind of things that you don’t need to be reminded of before a game. (What you need to know about your equipment)

What’s in a Set of Golf Clubs?

Instead, the types of golfing gear that you are most likely to forget are the things that I’ve mentioned in the article. But there’s still one more essential item that I haven’t yet talked about. It is the USGA Rule Book. Many professional and competitive golfers already carry this useful tool.

So I would advise beginner and occasional golfers as well to bring the USGA Rule Book if they wish to master the game as well as its various complexities.

So now you have to answer the above question? Is there any other item that you think golfers might need in emergency situations during a round of golf?

Please feel free to drop in your thoughts, feedback, and comments below. Let’s all come together to make golf an even more attractive and fun game than it already is. Cheers!
